Today take a domestic flight to a beautiful and remote region of the South Gobi, 553 km from Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to the Goviin Bayanburd 1 ger camp before a visit to the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains National Park. Here, rather than desert, the higher elevations up to 2,600 meters contain areas of steppe. This provides a habitat for a number of rare plants and animals including the elusive snow leopard and the Gobi Camel.
There are also areas of sand dunes, most famously the Khongoryn Els - the Singing Sands - which get their name due to the eery noises emanating from the dunes in the wind. Return to the camp to overnight under the desert sky. Click here to learn more about ger camps in Mongolia.
