CHENGDU

TSTC TRAVEL GUIDE

🇨🇳

CHENGDU OVERVIEW

Chengdu is China’s 5th most populated city and the capital of Sichuan province, the best place in the world to come and see that icon of China, the Giant Panda. There is much more to Chengdu though than these endangered mammals. The food is perhaps some of China’s best and the people are really friendly. It is also a great base from which to explore more of this mountainous region of China with trips to places such as Emeishan and Leshan possible as well as Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong if you have a bit longer.

REASON TO VISIT CHENGDU

Besides the pandas which are the top reason to visit Chengdu, this city is the jump off point for more in depth tours through mountainous Sichuan as well as being a popular start for the train or plane onto Lhasa in Tibet.

CHENGDU TRAVEL TIP

Try and find the time to spend a day visiting the world’s largest Giant Buddha at nearby Leshan. A bit more time and this can be combined with Emeishan mountain, one of China’s most sacred.

HIGHLIGHTS OF CHENGDU

The bustling Jin Li Street and the more serene Wenshuyuan area provide great opportunities for shopping, watching traditional performances and soaking up the local atmosphere in a traditional Chinese setting.
chengdu 6
A day trip out of the city to the Giant Buddha at Leshan is a must to see what is now the largest Buddha in the world set in a beautiful park of sculptures by a river.

HAND PICKED CHENGDU ACCOMMODATION

By far our favourite option is the BuddhaZen Hotel which is in a fantastic area and is full or character. The better higher end option in Chengdu tend to be the Western chain hotels such as the Shangri La.
