Vladivostok is the start or finish of the original Trans-Siberian express line Vladivostok to Moscow and although it is not as popular a route as the Trans-Mongolian to or from Beijing it is definitely the preferred route for Trans-Siberian purists! One fantastic thing about this route is that Russia’s best scheduled train, number 2 the “Rossiya”, runs the line from Vladivostok all the way the 9,259 km to Moscow making it the world’s longest single train ride. If you want to make this trip all in one go we would recommend an early autumn departure for the spectacular colours or a winter trip to see Siberian in its icy finest.

Where can tours starting in VLADIVOSTOK finish?

Moscow and St Petersburg are the two finish points for a Trans-Siberian tour starting in Vladivostok. The Trans Siberian railway Vladivostok to Moscow may be the longest single train ride but, of course, you do not have to travel direct and can stop off along the way in Irkutsk (for the beautiful and vast Lake Baikal) as well as Ekaterinburg in the Ural mountains – these are popular options although there are other possibilities as well including making a side trip into Mongolia before rejoining the line westwards on the Vladivostok to Moscow Trans Siberian.

why start a tour from VLADIVOSTOK?

Trans Siberian railway tours from Vladivostok Moscow are also ideal if you are coming from Japan or Korea and other destinations in Asia with decent air and ferry connections to both these countries. Also, there are good routes from the Americas so people form there often prefer to start in Vladivostok.

if travelling FROM vladivostok can I also visit mongolia?

Yes, a side trip off the railway from either Ulan Ude or Irkutsk into Mongolia and back is popular, especially if you do not need a Mongolian visa which applies to some - but not all! - nationalities.
