EKATERINBURG OVERVIEW

Ekaterinburg (previously known as Sverdlovsk) is an important and prosperous Siberian city located in the rolling Ural mountains that divide the continents of Europe and Asia. It lacks the glamour and glitz of Moscow and St Petersburg but, in doing so, is a far more representative experience of the real Russia. The city itself is surrounded by beautiful countryside dotted with traditional Siberian villages perfect for home stays and hiking. It is also a good winter stopover with dog-sledging and cross country skiing being popular.
