VOLOGRAD OVERVIEW

Volgograd – which was formerly known as Stalingrad – lies along the west bank of the Volga River in Southern Russia. It was the scene of one of the most important and bloodiest battles of the Second World War and so is usually visited by those with an interest in military history and on this front the city certainly doesn’t disappoint with plenty of thought provoking memorials and museums including the vast Mamayev Kurgan and the The Panorama museum located along the banks of the Volga river.
